The Challenge

The Mount Alexander Schools Chess Challenge will be run as a 7-round tournament – please be advised that in some previous years, only 6 rounds have been completed due to time constraints.

The focus of the Mount Alexander Schools Chess Challenge remains on a Team Competition. However, this year pairings for both Primary and Secondary will be made on an individual basis for each round. The final team standings will be calculated using the top five scores of competitors from each school. Prizes will awarded as follows:

  • Trophies will be awarded to the teams finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in both the Primary and Secondary Competitions.
  • Team medals will also be given out to the top five players on each of these first three teams for both competitions.
  • Individual medals will be given out to the players finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall in both competitions.
  • There will be a 1st, 2nd, 3rd girls medal in both divisions.

Cost of entry is $20 per student. Schools entering the Challenge become eligible to receive one of the Chess Grants after submitting an application.
